BTR2 tape recorder in room 12 at the BBCRW in 1961
BBC recording room in 1962 with EMI BTR2 recorders

The BTR/2 was a quarter inch mono tape recorder manufactured by EMI. It was one of the two main recording machines that Delia used at the Radiophonic Workshop, as “the big machine for mastering on”,[1] the other being the similar TR90.

It ran at 7½ and 15 inches per second[2] and part of Science in the Shadows was recorded on it at 7½ i.p.s. and replayed at 15.[3]
