5 minutes 34 seconds in length, The Delian Mode was created as incidental music rather than as a signature tune.[1]

It "pretty much defies description and is all the better for it; you don't want to have to resort to mere words to describe such a perfect sound, utterly deserving the self-definitive title Delia so knowingly gave it."[2] and is "reminiscent of the beginning of Xenakis's OrientOccident",[3] while Desmond Briscoe, head of the BBC Radiophonic Workhop, says it is "without parallel in our output."[4]

Delia also made an extended version of The Delian Mode, called Labyrynth, adding a further 2:30 for a total of 8:05.[5]
