Verity Lambert was the first producer of the Doctor Who TV series and chose Ron Grainer and Delia to produce its theme music.

I spoke to Ron Grainer, who'd written all these wonderful signature tunes, and I thought it would be interesting to try to get a melody out of radiophonic music, which nobody had tried to do at that point and Ron absolutely fell on this and thought it was wonderful, was terribly enthusiastic about it.
